Pros- If you use a litre of petrol a day, a good quality city speed electric scooter using a 1.3 kwhr battery like that of Hero, Ampere etc can save you 1000 ltrs of Petrol in 3 years as the battery would last at-least 3 years. This translates to Rs.75000 saving in addition to low maintenance. These e-scooters cost little less than the petrol ones.
Cons- Speed ~45km/hr, Low pickup and range of upto 60km.
Be careful, if you opt for higher speed, high torque scooters, this saving will substantially reduce or may even be wiped off.
Zero tail pipe emission and Crude oil imports reduction are the obvious benefits to the society and the country.
Pros:
Speed upto 75 kmph can be achieved.
Power upto 2 kW
Price upto 60k ex showroom
Running cost 10 paise per Km
Charging energy consumption is around 1 unit.
Eligible for incentive b/w 1.8k to 29k under FAME II scheme
Some do not need a driving license.
No tailpipe emissions.
Cons:
Range : decent, not very reliable
Battery: lead acid packs need replacing after 2 years while li ion battery needs replacing after 5 years, and also comes with added cost.
